Seals employ elastic sealing lips or end-face contact structures to prevent external mud, dust and sand from entering bearings, gearboxes and hydraulic systems. This prevents contaminants from accelerating component wear or causing seizure failures, thereby extending equipment overhaul intervals. They prevent lubricating oil and hydraulic fluid leakage, ensuring bearings and gears remain continuously immersed in lubricating media to reduce the risk of seizure caused by dry friction. Simultaneously, they block oil leakage that could contaminate farmland environments and prevent moisture ingress that dilutes fluids, causing lubrication failure. Mechanical seal technology can reduce leakage to less than 10% of traditional packing levels.
Though compact in size, this component serves as a critical defence against environmental corrosion, maintains lubricant purity, and reduces operational costs, directly impacting agricultural machinery availability and operational efficiency.
